Tourism portal for Destination Germany

Where content, technology and coordination come together to create a seamless digital experience.

  • Client: German National Tourist Board (GNTB)

  • Services: Consulting, Concept, UI, UX, Development

A portal of this complexity requires more than just solid technology – it’s also about coordination, reliability and an eye for detail. For us, it was especially exciting to help shape this platform as a central digital showcase for Germany as a travel destination – and to make sure everything runs smoothly, again and again.

Rethinking tourism digitally – and delivering reliably

Our contribution to one of the most important international platforms for inbound tourism to Germany

The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) operates germany.travel, one of the most important platforms for promoting inbound tourism to Germany. Our task: to oversee the technical implementation and editorial maintenance of the entire website over a three-year period (2022–2024) – including the management of a complex system architecture with numerous microsites, a wide range of interfaces and a broad network of internal departments, international markets and service providers – all in four language versions.

In addition to ensuring stable and reliable platform operation, our focus was on integrating technical innovations and efficiently managing editorial content – always in sync with ongoing campaigns, global initiatives and evolving market needs. We were responsible for the complete technical and editorial execution: from maintaining the FirstSpirit CMS to managing editorial formats in the newsroom and trade areas, and developing and delivering new thematic focuses.

A key component of our work was the comprehensive microsite management for international campaigns. Based on a concept brief, we clarified technical requirements in kick-off meetings with the GNTB, created and managed development tickets, coordinated with our internal development team and implemented content from initial upload to final go-live. Our responsibility spanned both technical implementation and editorial execution.

We delivered around 40 content projects per year – including major global campaigns such as “Simply FEEL GOOD”, “Cultureland Germany”, “UNESCO World Heritage” and “Season’s Greetings from Germany”. Thematic highlights like Chemnitz as European Capital of Culture 2025, UEFA EURO 2024 or the Caspar David Friedrich anniversary year were also brought to life through dedicated microsites.

With clear processes, close collaboration with the GNTB and a robust technical setup, we helped establish germany.travel as a reliable foundation for the international marketing of Destination Germany – including standout projects such as the launch of AI-based influencer Emma and the interactive “Top 100 Sights” content feature.
